Wendy is a Chartered Physiotherapist, being an affiliated member to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. She is also a member of the Health Professions Council and a member of the listed Special Interest groups and follows developments of Societies listed: ACPIN, GAIN, MS Trust, MS Society. PD Trust. She has trained in many neuro-related post graduate courses and closely follows the NICE guidelines to base her clinical practice.

As a physiotherapist, she qualified over 25 years ago. As a Neurological Physiotherapist, she adopts several approaches, combining a number of principles and theories to rehabilitation. These include the Bobath concept of Normal Movement and the Carr and Shepherd Concept of Motor Relearning and Conductive Education. Utilising exercise concepts such as Pilates and adjuncts such as strapping or orthotics to assist therapy sessions.

Wendy has vast experience working in the acute and community setting, leading Physios’ in Neurosurgery services, and later leading the West Midlands Regional Spasticity Service. Supporting the Regional Intrathecal Baclofen Service, she presented at national conferences and contributed to the development of National Guidelines. Through these networks, Holmwood Physiotherapy Practice has good links with local services and expertise.

Wendy has also completed the MLACP Accredited Training as an adult Neuro Medical expert. She is able to complete assessments and detailed reports for either Prosecutor or defence cases.

We were fortunate enough to be pointed in the direction of Wendy, whilst my Wife Caroline was still in hospital. Caroline is very disabled and cannot stand on her own and has limited use of her hands. Her condition is very rare Known as Critical Illness Neuropathy. Following discharge from hospital Wendy takes her through an exercise programme twice a week. Her hand and arm movements have improved. Wendy is obviously very experienced and has an excellent bedside manner. She gets to know her patients very well and Caroline looks forward to her visits. We would both recommend her to other patients.

When my father moved into a care home at the age of 95 having recently been widowed, he was a frail and effectively chair bound. We were fortunate that the visiting physiotherapist was Wendy. Over the next eighteen months or so – until he passed away earlier this year – she spent an hour with him two or three times most weeks. She was highly professional in her understanding of the exercises which would benefit him most, and particularly his posture.The effect was an immeasurable improvement in his quality of life and he always looked forward to his sessions with her. She also spent the time with him listening patiently to his stories of former times and discussing current events. He genuinely came to look on Wendy as a real friend.

Having Wendy working with me as my Physio, over the last few years, has been wonderful for me.
